Expanding Horizons: Innovating Fruit Sourcing for Prisoner Wine Company

Sourcing enough Napa Valley grapes to keep up with surging demand for a disruptive new brand.

The Challenge

Strategically incorporating fruit from other regions without altering the essential stylistic factors behind the brand’s success. The first critical step was to benchmark the brand’s wine style profile to identify its key characteristics. With this work done the team and I trialed similar varieties from other regions across California, employing adapted viticulture and winemaking techniques to achieve the desired style. Through meticulous trial blending against the benchmarked style, we established protocols to ensure consistency in the final product. With this successful sourcing transition, the company achieved significant cost reductions in blend production, supported continued brand growth, and maintained a wine style consumers had come to love.
